Nikki gained extensive research and knowledge of rescue dogs from working in many different animal rescue shelters around the world. This is an area that she specialises in. She has met some of the most wonderful dogs in these centres and would always advise people to go to a rescue home to choose their new dog where they can.

It is a wonderful thing to be able to bring a dog home from a rescue shelter but it can come with its problems. Often the dogs have been through some trauma or misfortune before they arrive at the home and have had to deal with the separation and abandonment from their first family pack.

This then can create insecurity within the dog and it may not be able to form a new bond with its new family and problems can continue with the dog’s behaviour. Nikki saw many dogs being re homed and then days later the new owners bringing the dog back to the shelter as they could not handle its behaviour. This not only creates extra problems for the dogs but for the rescue centres as well.
